Great Stay at The Warwick Hotel, NYC

Standard

Recently I spent a night at the Warwick Hotel, located at 65 W 54th St. NYC.  It is a beautiful hotel and centrally located near many of New York’s best attractions.  It is close to the theater district and a block away from the Museum of Modern Art (moma).

As we pulled up in front of the hotel we were immediately greeted by an attentive doorman and our luggage was quickly brought inside for us to ease the check-in process.  The staff was accommodating and we were given a beautiful room on the 6th floor of the hotel.  The rooms were elegantly decorated and the bathrooms were modern and very clean.  The hotel also offers amenities such as a fitness center and valet parking.

It was a great hotel and I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a hotel in the midtown area.  Book your stay by visiting the hotel website at

How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular!

Standard

Spectacular is a good way to describe this show!!!  It was truly an amazing event that will keep the kids (and adults!) entertained from start to finish!

The story was kept true to the movie, highlighting the friendship formed between Hiccup, the Viking boy, and the dragon he calls Toothless.  The actors in the show were talented acrobats and were involved in many stunts both on the ground and in the air.

The use of a huge screen as the backdrop allowed the audience to feel as though they were moving through time and space and helped to transform the coliseum to a mythical place where dragons live.  The animatronics involved was unbelieveable.  My daughter and her friend kept asking me if the dragons were real.  I could see why they thought so, they move and blink with ease and truly act like living, breathing animals.

I thought this was a wonderful show and from the reaction of the audience others think so as well.  It is not to late to see the show at Nassau Coliseum, it is here until August 4th, and use coupon code MOM on Ticketmaster for a 25% discount on select shows.  Buy your tickets now!

The live production rolls fire-breathing action, epic adventure and heartfelt laughter into an original captivating story set in the mythical world of Vikings and wild dragons.  Based on the book by Cressida Cowell, it centers on Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers.  Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view. The story presents a vision so grand in scale that only DreamWorks Animation and Global Creatures could bring How to Train Your Dragon to life in front of a live audience.

Cooking Class!

Standard

What to do with the kids when the weather is blistering hot and you just don’t want to go to the pool or beach one more time….How about a cooking class!  Recently my daughter participated in a cooking class and she loved it!  It was a fun, indoor activity and as an added bonus it was a drop off activity for a couple of hours.  It gave me a chance to go do some errands and she had the opportunity to create some delicious treats.  She made homemade pasta and cookies.  The kids loved working in the kitchen and they were more than happy to eat the food that they made!

Check your local paper to find a cooking school near you….

Fourth of July

Standard

What better way to spend the Fourth of July then with good friends, having a BBQ and watching a great fireworks display.  It was a fun night for the adults and kids.  My daughter just loves when she gets to spend time and play with her friends.  How did you spend your fourth?

Dance, Dance, Dance….

Standard

The end of the year of Ballet/Tap is here!  After a year of classes and not even one sneak peek allowed the doors finally opened yesterday for a preview of the upcoming dance recital.  The girls were all in costume and really looked cute!  It is a 5/6 year old class and Lauryn is one of the youngest in the class.  I thought she did great!  Check out the videos below to see what good dancers they have become:)  Just as long as they keep smiling…they will be a big hit!

I think this is the last year I will get her to do Ballet/Tap…now she wants Hip Hop or Jazz.  What kind of dance do your kids take?  Should I try to get her to continue with the more classical dance of ballet and tap?

I think it should be fun, and if she is excited about being there then she will put more effort in.  I can’t wait for the big show June 9!

Sailing Away….

Standard

Winter is officially here.  Although the weather in NY has been relatively mild, it is still too cold for me!  The days just seem so dreary in the winter and the landscape is bleek.  I feel pale and everyone is sniffling and sneezing, it is just no fun.  I don’t mind a few days of snow, but we haven’t seen any of that yet this year.  So my time and energy has been in planning a get away this winter.

Being a teacher, we are forced to travel on the school breaks.  Now I am not complaining, I do love my job, but the traveling is tough because the prices are usually 3 or 4 times the price for that week.  For the past 6 years we have traveled to Florida over break, visited my mom and took some short trips to the keys.  I was looking into repeating that trip again but the airline tickets seem to be even more expensive this year than in the past.

The other day a lady at work mentioned she was going on a cruise over break.  I decided to look into it.  I couldn’t believe that for a little more money than the plane tickets I could sail for a week out of NY and go to Fl and the Bahamas for a week.  All the food is included and the boat is jam packed with things to do for adults and kids.  My daughter will love the kids club and pools.

I think it will be a great vacation.  Lauryn was upset we weren’t going to get to see Grandma in Fl, but my mom will meet our ship down there and spend the day with us while we are in port.  Norwegian Jewel, here we come!

Have you sailed Norwegian before? Let me know what you think!

Our New Cat…

Standard

A while back I mentioned we were getting a kitten.  Well, Brady has now been living here for a month and he is amazing!  We are all in love.  This kitten was so good from day one!  No training needed, went right in the litter box and he is so friendly.  On Christmas Day we had tons of adults at our house, and he walked right in the center of the group and made himself at home.

The one thing I was nervous about when we got the cat, is how he would react to children.  Cats can get skiddish and scratch or bite when they are afraid.  A five year old can be very frightening to a one pound kitten!!  I would be scared…LOL!  I think that introducing the cat slowly to his surroundings and allowing my daughter to hold him was important in making him comfortable.  Just make sure there is adult supervision when the child is handling the kitten.

As you can see, he has become accustomed to being picked up and put in little spots.  He is her little doll!  The funny thing is I think he likes it.

A Marriage Proposal Gone Wrong!

Standard

This past weekend at a UCLA basketball game a fan sitting court side decided to pop the question to his girlfriend.  With 17,000 fans looking on he reached in his pocket for the ring, professed his love and asked the question…Will you marry me?  The crowd watched on the “Mistletoe Cam” expecting to see the girl accepting the ring followed by the obligitory kiss.  Well, this was not what happened!  The girl, seeming to be taken completely off guard, got up and ran in the other direction.  Fans can be heard groaning and the boyfriend is left sitting with the ring in a very awkward position.  To top it all off, there is a girl trying to broadcast the whole scene.  How embarrassing!

Players commented on the proposal and most agreed it was a sad sight.  Most felt really bad for the guy.  The couple has not been reached for further comment at this time.  Check out this video…

Marriage Proposal Gone Wrong

Happy New Year!!

Standard

Wow!  Another year over and time for a new beginning.  The new year is always a time where lots of resolutions are made and new ideas are started.  I think it is important to set realistic goals that, with a little effort, can be achieved.  Start off small, if reorganizing is on your list (it is on mine!!) then start with a few kitchen draws or one cabinet and build from there.  Today I started in my daughters playroom and reorganized the games and some of the toys.

I am now more motivated to tackle larger projects because I was able to accomplish something.  I find that when I try to do to much it is overwhelming and I often give up long before the project is finished!

Here is to a new year full of acomplishments and fun….

Now next on my to do list…finding reasonably priced plane tickets to Florida for February break….I don’t expect that goal to be accomplished to easily!
