So….school is just around the corner…I can’t believe it!  Where did summer go!  I had to face it and do a little back to school shopping.  I found some great finds at Crew Cuts.  My daughter likes to dress up and the sparkle on the clothes and the fun styles at Crew Cuts are right up her ally.

J.Crew is a company that supports teachers! Teachers receive 15% off all their purchases year round.  It is nice they recognize the hard work of all the teachers out there!   Check out the items I picked up…

The Limited Flagship Store NY and $100 Gift Card Giveaway for you!! Enter To Win!!

Standard

The Limited was a favorite of mine in high school and college as a place to shop.  They had great clothes and provided many staple pieces for any wardrobe.

I was fortunate to be invited to the “new” Limited in their flagship store in Long Island New York’s Roosevelt Field.   The grand opening was in the beginning of May 2012.  The store has an upscale vibe with dark flooring and chandeliers.  It provides a comfortable feeling and one that is inviting and warm.  Your eye travels throughout the store following the various bright colors for spring, mixed with the traditional black and white pieces to balance a wardrobe.

There are some great features of the store.  One is the fact you can shop for your whole outfit in one stop.

Not only is there a beautiful selection on clothes, but there is a shoe department and amazing jewelry selection as well.

You can complete your look and try it on in the modernized dressing rooms.  Each room provides a “call” button that illuminates on the outside when pressed.  This alerts a store representative that you need assistance and they will come to help you with your needs.

This store had some great trends for spring and summer and I can see why The Limited at Roosevelt Field is already becoming a popular place to shop!

Pillow Pets for Pillow Pets!

Standard

I feel like pillow pets have been around now for a couple of years…but now they seem to be coming in more and more sizes!  My daugher just loves these animals.  She uses them for lounging around and piles them on top of each other forming pillow pet families!  LOL!  I said I was done buying them, but somehow the cute, soft pillows keep finding a way to make it into my house.

Check out some of these guys…they are really cute!  I love the penguins…

Keeping the Important Stuff…Forever!

Standard

Up until a few months ago I never knew what to do with the cute pictures my daughter drew or the newspaper clippings about her or her progress reports.  They were put in multiple drawers, folders, and photo albums but they were all over the place and there would be no way I would ever be able to find a particular one if I wanted it.

That is when I found the School Years Memory Book.  This book is great!  It has small frames on the front cover to post a school photo for each grade K-12.  I have seen frames like that, but this is great because it is the front cover of the book.  Inside the book dedicates at least 3 pages to each grade starting at Pre-k.  Each page has spaces to paste pictures or write some milestones of the time.  The best part about the book is that each page is a pocket.  So each year, you have threee large pockets to fill with report cards, newspaper clippings, special drawings, well done reports or tests, anything that you would want to keep over time.  It has made me so organized, and every time she wants to see something she accomplished it is easy to find.  No more digging through drawers and searching through piles.  It is so nice to be able to locate all the important pieces of work and art that she created.  I recommend getting one for each of your children.  They will want to pull it out from time to time and look back at all the memories from years past!

I found a link to purchase one of these great keepsakes on Amazon. Here is the link:

Elf on the Shelf~Fun Ideas!

Standard

The Elf on the Shelf is a great Christmas tradition, one that the kids and parents both love!  Scroll down for ideas…or for those of you who are not familiar with the Elf on the Shelf concept, it is a small plush elf that comes with a book. Each night the elf moves to a different spot in the house, and the kids always look forward to finding him!  When the elf first arrives reading the book is a fun part of the tradition, and then the child can give the Elf a name.  After that, the ideas are up to you!  Some elves cause mischief and some are well behaved.  You can get as creative as you want! We always bring our elf back right after Thanksgiving to get us in the Christmas spirit!  Parents can introduce the elf to their children in any number of ways and the whole family can enjoy this fun holiday tradition.

So….Introducing the Elf on the Shelf!

What is a good way to introduce the Elf on the Shelf?

What is a creative way to introduce the Elf on the Shelf?

When is a good time to introduce the Elf on the Shelf?

These might be questions you have and I would like to share a few fun ideas for the big event!

Ideas for the Introduction

1-Roll out the Red Carpet- Use a red table runner or long piece of red fabric and place the elf at one end on either a table or fireplace mantle.  This way he has made a grand entrance.

2-Wrap him and the book up and leave it on your doorstep so the kids can find him.  Have it addressed to them- From: SANTA

3-Make a breakfast or dinner party with your child to Welcome the Elf to your home or back again.  Kids can help cook a simple meal with you and honor their new guest!

4-Drive to your nearest train station, bus stop or airport and pull in.  Have the kids close their eyes and when they open them the elf will magically apppeared in the car.  You can make a fun afternoon of this by picking him up after his long  journey from the North Pole.

Once you introduce your elf, he can be calm and just move to fun spots around the house each day or he can do things around the house….maybe he might leave a special snack one morning for your child, or a special note.  He might even bring a little treat from time to time.

Here are some mischeif ideas I found:

Make a “snow angel” in flour on your kitchen counter

Not for everyone but…A few drop of green food coloring in the toilet…(the elf needed to use the bathroom)

Some marshmallows tossed around the kitchen…a little marshmallow fun!

You can do whatever works for you family!  The ideas are endless!!  Share your family tradition with us!!  Our elf is raiding the fridge tonight…she will find him in there tomorrow morning!

If you don’t own the Elf on the Shelf it is not too late!!!  You can get one from Amazon.com or any number of local stores!

Here is a link to getting one today!!  Have fun getting ready for the holidays!!!
